Client: Diocesan Trust and Parish
Services: Project Management, CDM-C

aed were appointed to Project Manage this Design/Build contract to remodel a modern church constructed in the 1970s. We also acted as CDM-C.

The original roof had been constructed in a long span aluminium systems laid to a low pitch with banks of clerestory windows. Rain was penetrating the building through the construction, which was also suffering from severe condensation around the single glazed aluminium windows. The interior was dark and unwelcoming.

The solution was to construct a new steep pitched roof over the existing structure, and by using lightweight metal tiles achieve this without increasing the loads on the structure. Natural daylight and ventilation was brought into the Church through roof windows controlled electrically and by integral rain sensors. As part of the refurbishment the interior was redecorated, a new perforated plasterboard acoustic ceiling installed, and lighting and audio systems brought up to date.

Works were completed within budget and in time for the new Church to open for Easter services.
