Two enclosed courtyards were partially infilled to create more teaching space and provide a 24 hour Learning Resource Centre. In one, a four storey building houses the LRC, geology teaching laboratories, and a graduate centre. In the second courtyard two floors of seminar rooms were constructed above an existing Lecture Theatre. The project created an extra 2,500 sq.m of internal floor space and refurbished a further 1,200 sq.m on a tight urban campus which remained fully operational throughout.

Our ability to resolve complex constructional and buildability issues were amply demonstrated. These were constructed within enclosed courtyards and partly above occupied buildings, with over 24 interconnection points into occupied areas, and whilst fully maintaining use of existing facilities. This phase provided a mix of general teaching spaces, laboratories, LRC expansion, and a staff restaurant as well as remodelling the main Campus entrance.
