Client: Sandhurst Churches Together
Services: Architecture, Feasibility Study

A new build free standing community building set within Sandhurst Memorial Park to provide a range of spaces and facilities including:

• Centre for Information and community activities in Sandhurst
• A café / restaurant
• Display for local arts and crafts
• Location for local police surgery
• Activity and information centre for local schools
• Sustainable technology showroom
• Location for local clinics and counselling
• Children’s holiday club
• Community room for local societies, church groups, and businesses.

The building is to incorporate the latest in sustainable design and technologies in a demonstrable way so as to inform the local community.

The ground floor contains the main cafeteria together with its kitchens and support rooms. The cafeteria comprises a diverse range of seating options arranged around a central water atrium which is an integral part of the sustainable approach to the building’s design and performance. Within the ground floor main entrance lobby there is a Town Council’s display and information area. A glazed and enclosed first floor corridor accesses two inter-connecting community rooms with views across the park and into the water atrium.

The primary structure is of laminated timber with a roof finish of zinc cladding and external walls in a blend of timber framed glass panels and natural finish timber boarding. The ground floor perimeter of the building is clad externally in a grid of timber scantlings which will be overgrown with hedging and climbers to soften the visual appearance of the building and restrict the ability for graffiti and vandalism of the building.
